Home life in Colorado's playground

No matter how grand each travel destination is, sometimes, it is just as exciting to come home as it is to adventure to new places. Where is home, you ask? The playground of Colorado; Summit County.

In the summer you will find many outdoor activities in lieu of full body contact water sports, and those requiring an airport. The Rocky Mountains are known for many adventurous activities; backpacking, hiking mountains, biking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, golfing and gold medal fishing to name a few.

A wonderful starting point in Summit County would be the sapphire waters of Dillon Reservoir with some kayaking, paddle-boarding, pontoon, or sail boating. If you wish to rent equipment for the day both the Dillon Marina and Frisco Marina offer reasonable prices.

If taking it all in with a drink in hand is your style it would be hard to beat the views at the Dillon Tiki bar! Unless you take the water taxi across the lake to The Island Grill at the Frisco Marina. From here take in main street and find some of the local’s favorite places as you enjoy the shopping and variety of food.

Find me in Frisco eating breakfast at Butterhorn Bakery, grabbing a quick sandwich at Deli Beli’s, at Kemosabe for the best sushi or typing this blog right now enjoying a coffee at Next Page Bookstore.

If you enjoy cycling, the ride around the reservoir on the 18-mile 1,100' climb along the bike path has some of best views Summit County has to offer. Another great option is the bike path from Frisco to Breckenridge where you can enjoy the charm of the old 1859 town. On the free gondola ride you will be whisked from 9,600’ to the base of Breckenridge ski resort. If timed perfectly, you will experience a spectacle of wildflowers.

Keystone hosts the most amazing riders in the world by continuing to showcase some of the best terrain in the country. Downhill a little steep for you? There are hundreds of trails to ride with different levels all over the county.

Get your demo road or mountain bike and maps at Norski Sports Rentals in Keystone, Wilderness Sports in Dillon, Rebel Sports in Frisco, or Mountain Wave in Breckenridge. Each shop has vast product knowledge for every level of riding, and the respect you deserve to be treated with.

So grateful every single day for choosing a life of adventure here in beautiful Summit County Colorado. Come visit, taste and feel this unbelievable mountain air. You don’t need to knock. Our door is almost always open, we call it I-70.
